For hours, a severely ill patient lay unattended on a stretcher, his body decomposing as he waited to be treated at a hospital in Uttar Pradesh, eventually leading to his death. This heartbreaking scenario, now under investigation, has exposed the glaring lack of adequate healthcare provisions in government-run hospitals in the state.
Officials say the patient, admitted to the community health center in Kasganj, Uttar Pradesh, was referred to a hospital in Kanpur, some 120 kilometers away, on Monday afternoon. But his condition worsened during the journey, and he died shortly after arriving at the Kanpur hospital.
surprisngly, the patient's body was reportedly left on the stretcher in the hospital ward, allegedly unattended, for several hours, leading to his rapid decomposition. Photographs taken by a local newspaper show the family helplessly watching the decaying process as they allegedly waited for medical attention.
The incident has sparked anger and disappointment among locals and government officials alike, with the district magistrate of Kasganj, Kumar Ashish, vowing to investigate the matter. Mr. Ashish stated, "It's very sad and disappointing that such an incident has taken place in one of our hospitals. Action will be taken against the accused."
The tragic death highlights ongoing systemic issues in India's healthcare system, where underfunded government hospitals and poorly paid staff often struggle to provide basic care, unnecessarily costing lives.
Unfortunately, this isn't the first time poor conditions have led to controversies at UP hospitals. In recent years, several instances of alleged medical negligence and scandals at government-run hospitals in Uttar Pradesh have underscored the need for comprehensive healthcare reform in the state.
