Manipur police and security forces in recent weeks conducted a significant counter-insurgency campaign. Working together, they confiscated weapons and disrupted illegal activities in nine districts. This operation, one of the most extensive in the past few weeks, highlights a renewed focus on dismantling militant networks and eliminating their operational capabilities in Manipur's sensitive areas.
The operation, which encompassed both valley and hill regions in Manipur, was conducted in Jiribam, Churachandpur, Bishnupur, Kakching, Chandel, Tamenglong, Kangpokpi, Imphal West, and Imphal East. Troops from the Army and Assam Rifles, working closely with the Manipur Police, were able to apprehend three members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) and Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL).
The seizures included 53 firearms of various types, seven IEDs, a large quantity of ammunition, grenades, tear gas shells, and other explosive materials. The materials recovered also included military-grade protective gear and communication devices such as Baofeng handsets, tactical boots, bulletproof covers, military fatigues, and radio sets.
This demonstrates the militants' preparedness for combat. The operation also disrupted an important narcotics trafficking hub, seizing 1,200 methamphetamine tablets valued at approximately Rs 10 lakh. In Haolenphai, Moreh (Tengnoupal District), an individual suspected of extortion and weapon smuggling was also apprehended.
The operation, which resulted in the arrest of hardened militants and the seizure of a substantial arsenal of weapons and narcotics, will undoubtedly disrupt insurgent activities in the area. Officials emphasized that the operation's success was the result of coordinated efforts and precise intelligence. They will likely continue to target militant networks and dismantle their ability to organize and carry out future activities.
