Amid the ominous silence of the drug abuse epidemic that has engulfed Kashmir, a local NGO boldly stepped forward with a targeted solution. 'All JK Youth Society' launched a ground-level drug awareness program aimed at local youth in Srinagar, and 500 eager girls packed a government school to hear the message. The event highlighted the pernicious path drugs take to reach young people and the destructive consequences for users. Yana Mir, the vice president of the society, encouraged the girls to become catalysts for change and spare their generation the scourge of drug abuse and the crimes that often accompany it.
The upbeat response from the attendees bodes well for the society's goal of engaging and empowering youth to lead social change. The event was also attended by local political figures, including Sanjay Saraf, National General Secretary RLGP, Shoaib Dar of Apni Party, and Agha Syed Abbas Rizvi, President JK People's Justice Front. Society activists Sahil Bashir Bhat, Aijaz Kashani, and Javid Beigh also participated, along with Principal GGHS and Area Corporator Shaheena Bhat.
This initiative is a promising grassroots movement to combat drug abuse in Kashmir and engage the leaders of tomorrow in the battle.
