The Electricity Conductors of India (ECI) convened its third CEOs' conference to review the nationwide preparedness for the upcoming Severe Impact Resilience (SIR) exercise. The 2-day conference, held in Gurugram on 7-8 February, saw the participation of top officials from the power sector, including CEOs and senior representatives of state transmission utilities (STUs), power grid corporations, and power exchanges from across the country.
Owing to the significance of effective inter-state coordination and cooperation between power utilities for ensuring the success of the SIR exercise, the conference offered a appropriate platform for an in-depth review of the preparedness of each state and union territory (UT). The Commission also took the opportunity to remind all states and UTs of the seriousness of the SIR drill and the need to ensure seamless coordination among various agencies and stakeholders in the power ecosystem.
Pursuant to the Conference, states and UTs have been instructed to submit their detailed SIR action plans within the next 2 weeks, giving ample time for the review of these plans by the ECI and power sector regulators across the country. The ECI will subsequently conduct a pre-exhibition review meeting with senior officials of state and central governments to further fine-tune the plans.
The SIR exercise, scheduled to take place from 18th to 22nd April, 2023, is a landmark initiative of the Ministry of Power aimed at preparing the entire power grid of the country to manage severe events like grid collapse, and therefore ensure seamless restoration of electricity across the country during such scenarios.
