On Sunday, a tragic incident unfolded in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district as terrorists belonging to The Resistance Front, an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba, attacked a bus carrying pilgrims returning from the Shiv Khori shrine to Katra, the base camp of Mata Vaishno Devi shrine. The ambush, which occurred around 6:10 p.m., resulted in the deaths of nine individuals, including the bus driver and conductor, while 33 others sustained injuries. The assailants, hiding in nearby forests, fired upon the bus, causing it to veer off the road and plunge into a gorge near Teryath village in the Poni area.
Victims Identified:
Among the deceased were identified individuals from Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, highlighting the diverse geographical impact of the attack. The victims included residents from Jaipur, Rajasthan, and several individuals from Uttar Pradesh. The local authorities are facilitating the transportation of bodies to their respective states for final rites.
Security and Investigative Response:
Following the attack, a massive search operation has been launched to locate the perpetrators, believed to be hiding in the Rajouri-Poonch forests. The Indian security forces have intensified their presence in the area, and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been entrusted with the investigation to uncover the circumstances and those responsible for the attack.
