American Citizen Among Two Arrested in Hyderabad Drug Bust

The State Task Force (STF) of the Telangana Excise and Prohibition Department has apprehended two individuals, including an American citizen, in a significant drug bust near Hyderabad's Sun City area on Saturday, April 5, 2025. The operation yielded illegal narcotics valued at ₹2.75 lakh, along with ₹1 lakh in cash and a vehicle.

Acting on intelligence, STF officials arrested Tejas Katta and Sohail Ahmed, both 29, as they allegedly attempted to deliver a drug consignment. The seized narcotics included 21 grams of OG Kush, 32.5 grams of hashish, and 56 grams of LSD blast, indicating a diverse range of illicit substances.

Investigations revealed Katta, though born in India, became an American citizen after moving to the U.S. at a young age. His alleged involvement in drug dealing began during a two-year stint working in Mumbai, where he reportedly developed an addiction and forged connections within the drug network.

Currently residing in Begumpet and employed by a Hyderabad-based firm, Katta, along with his associate Ahmed, is suspected of regularly traveling to Mumbai every fortnight to procure drugs. They would then distribute these narcotics within and around the Sun City area of Hyderabad, catering to a local clientele.

Following their arrest, the seized drugs, cash, and vehicle have been handed over to Shamshabad Excise officials. Authorities are actively pursuing further investigations to uncover the broader network implicated in this drug trade, with efforts focused on tracing additional links and dismantling the supply chain extending across both Hyderabad and Mumbai.
