Ludhiana Hosiery Trader Arrested in ₹15 Lakh Drug Money Case, Heroin Seized

Amritsar, Punjab – Amritsar police have made a significant breakthrough in busting a large-scale drug trafficking network, arresting a Ludhiana-based hosiery trader and seizing 2kg of heroin along with ₹15 lakh in hawala money. The arrest sheds light on intricate links between local businesses and international drug smuggling operations, particularly those originating from Afghanistan.

The operation began with the apprehension of Mantej Singh from Tarn Taran, who was found in possession of 2.124 kg of heroin. Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar stated that Mantej Singh's subsequent interrogation led to the nomination and arrest of Gurcharan Singh alias Channa, a hosiery trader from Ludhiana. Channa was nabbed from the bus stand area in Amritsar, and his disclosure led directly to the recovery of the ₹15 lakh in hawala money, believed to be proceeds from drug sales.

Further in-depth investigation revealed that Gurcharan Singh's hosiery business was allegedly a front, used to facilitate the movement of drug money. He was reportedly involved in exporting hosiery goods to Afghanistan and, in return, received drug proceeds through hawala channels from various parts of Punjab and Delhi. This connection highlights a sophisticated method of laundering illicit funds through legitimate trade.

Authorities are now probing the backward and forward linkages of this network, aiming to dismantle the entire supply chain. The arrest of a businessman involved in such a high-value drug money operation underscores the pervasive nature of the drug menace and the complex financial trails involved, necessitating continuous vigilance and intelligence-led operations by law enforcement.
