Actor Srikanth Remanded in Custody Following Drug Arrest in Chennai

Chennai, Tamil Nadu, June 24, 2025 – South Indian film actor Srikanth (46), a familiar face in over 54 films across Telugu and Malayalam cinema, was arrested on Monday by the Greater Chennai Police in connection with a narcotics case. Following extensive interrogation and medical tests, the actor has been remanded to judicial custody until July 7, 2025.

The arrest of Srikanth, known for his debut in the 2002 Tamil film "Roja Kootam," is a direct consequence of the ongoing drug probe that earlier led to the detention of T. Prasad, a functionary of the AIADMK IT wing. Police suspect Prasad to be a supplier of banned substances, and his interrogation reportedly yielded crucial evidence linking Actor Srikanth to the drug network.

Sources indicate that Srikanth was brought to the Nungambakkam Police Station on Monday afternoon and questioned for over nine hours. During this period, a blood sample was collected from the actor, and subsequent tests confirmed the presence of narcotic substances in his system, solidifying the case against him. After a medical examination at Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, Srikanth was produced before Magistrate Dhayalan of the 14th Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Egmore, at the magistrate's residence for the proceedings. Advocate Vignesh Ramanadhan represented the actor during the court appearance.

This high-profile arrest comes amidst heightened scrutiny on drug use within the South Indian film industry. Recently, in April, Malayalam actors Shine Tom Chacko and Sreenath Bhasi were also questioned by excise officials in a separate drug seizure probe, after a woman arrested with drugs allegedly implicated them. These incidents highlight the concerted efforts by law enforcement agencies to crack down on the increasing nexus between the entertainment industry and illicit drug trade, sending a clear message against substance abuse.
