A fresh wave of anti-drug efforts has begun in Ernakulam with the launch of the “No Entry” campaign, a significant step under the SAFE (Substance Abuse Free Environment) Village project. The initiative was officially flagged off by MP Hibi Eden, with popular Malayalam actor Prithviraj Sukumaran lending his support as the brand ambassador. The primary goal of the campaign is to create drug-free zones in areas surrounding schools and educational institutions to shield young minds from the lure of substance abuse.
The “No Entry” campaign is built on strong community participation. Volunteers, including local residents, students, teachers, and Kudumbashree workers, will work together to map and monitor a five-kilometre radius around schools. This mapping exercise will help identify vulnerable spots and frequent gathering areas where drug peddlers might target the youth.
Local leaders emphasised that preventing young people from falling into the trap of addiction requires not just policing but also community vigilance, awareness, and education. By involving the public directly, the project aims to build a sense of shared responsibility among residents, parents, and local businesses.
Authorities hope that this campaign will inspire similar models across other parts of Kerala and the country. Prithviraj Sukumaran’s involvement is expected to attract widespread attention and motivate young people to stay away from narcotics.
In a time when rising drug abuse among youth is a serious concern, “No Entry” stands out as a collaborative, proactive, and hopeful approach to reclaim neighbourhoods and protect future generations from the devastating impact of drugs.
