Air India's venture capital arm, Air India SATS Airport Services (AISATS) has fired 4 senior staff members for allegedly organizing an office party without prior approval. The news comes just days after the tragic crash of Air India flight AI171 in Ahmedabad, and amid an ongoing investigation into the disaster.
The party, held at AISATS' Gurugram office, is reported to have taken place on July 4, with attendance of around 20 staff members. It was reportedly an impromptu gathering to celebrate one of the member's birthday.
AISATS cited its zero-tolerance policy on misconduct and inappropriate behavior as reasons for the dismissal, in addition to the absence of prior approval for the gathering.
This unfortunate development underscores the ongoing challenges faced by the Indian airline industry and the difficult decisions employers must make when enforcing company policies.
As authorities continue to investigate the causes of the crash, employees are left to grapple with the consequences of unauthorized office parties.
