Disappearance of Najeeb Ahmed, a JNU student, 10 years ago remains a perplexing mystery as the Delhi High Court accepted a closure report from the CBI yesterday. The court stated that it believes that all possible leads were explored in the case of the missing student.
In October 2021, the CBI told the court that Ahmed's disappearance may be linked to the "larger conspiracy" of the 2013 North East Delhi riots. The agency also alleged that Ahmed's brother, Sartaj, had undergone a cosmetic surgery to alter his appearance.
After submitting the closure report, the court quoted, "The court is satisfied that the CBI has investigated all the plausible avenues during the investigation and examined all the possible suspects during the course of investigation of this case and at this stage, it does not find any reason to reject the present closure report."
This comes after the CBI recently reopened the case of missing JNU student Afsanlik Khan, who disappeared in August 2021, sparking concerns of a pattern in unsolved cases of disappearances of Muslim students from campuses across India.
The closure of the case draws attention to the countless unsolved cases of disappearances across the country, leaving families and loved ones with few answers and lingering questions.
Only time will tell if this marks the end of the investigation into Ahmed's disappearance or if new clues will emerge bringing more clarity to this mysterious case.
