She had danced her way into his heart. Little did she know, away from the stage lights, she would have to dance in another man's arms, and for a very different reason.

Unfortunately, this is the heartbreaking story of many young children in the state of Bihar, who are deceived by predators who promise the opportunity to learn dance and orchestra, only to be trafficked and exploited. Yesterday, the Bihar High Court took up a PIL that alleged just that, and whose prayer is to act swiftly to prevent any further occurrence of such crimes.

The petition highlighted stories of several girls who were victims of trafficking, and whose families suffered at the hands of these deceitful traffickers. One particular story involved a 3rd standard girl who was sold to a racketeer by a trust operating in the state.

The petitioner pleaded that there should be proper background checks of these trusts and schools before they are allowed to operate, and that regular inspections should be conducted to avoid any unethical or illegal happenings.

The Court immediately acted, and issued an order dictating that the State Government to immediately notify all such organizations and departments concerned, and to form a committee that will inspect each of these schools within 6 weeks.

The Court further ordered that the committee will submit a report within one month of completion of the inspection, and ordered the State Police to provide assistance to the committee if needed. Only time will tell if this swift action will help bring an end to these heinous crimes, and if the lights will once again shine bright, for these young dancers to safely find their way back into the arms of their loved ones at home.
