The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in Mumbai made a significant seizure of cocaine worth an estimated 62.6 crores from a female Indian national who had arrived at the Mumbai International Airport on Monday. The passenger was intercepted based on specific intelligence, and six Oreo cookie boxes and three chocolate boxes containing a total of 300 capsules filled with a white powdery substance suspected to be cocaine were found in her baggage. A total of 6,261 grams of cocaine was recovered, and further investigation is underway. The directorate had, in a similar operation, seized cocaine worth INR 11.39 crore from a male passenger who had arrived from Sierra Leone on June 22. The recent action was taken under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and the female passenger was taken into custody for further investigation. The seizure of such a substantial quantity of cocaine reflects the success of the authorities in preventing illicit activities and addressing the serious issue of drug trafficking.
