"Heroin and cocaine are dangerous, corrosive drugs":

The Nigerian army destroyed Navaian beans, methamphetamine, and cannabis, enough to make at least 500,000 doses, according to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The haul, one of the agency's largest seizures of drugs, included 400 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa, 200kg of methamphetamine, and 200kg of heroin, as well as smaller amounts of other drugs.

At a destruction ceremony, NDLEA director-general Mohamed Marwa warned drug barons that the agency would continue to pursue them and described those who resisted arrest as "recalcitrant narcotics offenders."

"The destructive impact of heroin and cocaine is well known, and it is sad that some people would contrive to traffic these substances into our society, ignoring their corrosive and devastating effects on the lives of citizens, especially the youth," Mr Marwa said.

"NDLEA will not be deterred in its efforts to emerge as the foremost drug-fighting agency in Africa."

The destruction ceremony was attended by officers from the army's Narcotics Division and the NDLEA.

The drugs were concealed in packets disguised as construction paint to try and evade authorities.

The NDLEA has intensified efforts to combat drug trafficking across Nigeria, including the deployment of personnel and specially trained dogs.

In November, the agency said it had seized more than 2,765 kilogrammes of methamphetamine and cannabis, including a record 1.5 tonnes of methamphetamine seized in a single operation in April.
