Black marketing of life-saving drugs is unfortunately not an uncommon phenomenon, especially in countries where the laws are not strictly enforced. This time, authorities in Mumbai and Hyderabad have taken action by arresting 14 people who were selling the antiviral drug remdesivir, used to treat COVID-19, at an inflated price. The drug, which normally retails for around $400 a dose, was being sold by these individuals for up to $5,400, a staggering five times the maximum retail price.
The drugs and guns are coming out of Winnipeg neighbourhoods. Three people were arrested in a recent investigation turned raid in the Rossmere neighbourhood last month. The guns and gangs unit uncovered over $112,000 in illegal drugs, a loaded handgun and an empty 50-round magazine.
