Karnataka police seized Rs. 7.5 lakhs in cash, luxury cars, and SIM cards after busting a network of twelve men who allegedly extorted lakhs of job seekers by promising them fictitious jobs.
In a severe blow to online scam artists, the Karnataka state police arrested a dozen individuals alleged to have perpetrated a sophisticated online jobs scam extorting lakhs of rupees from unsuspecting victims. The police seized over Rs. 7.5 lakhs in cash, luxury cars, and multiple SIM cards, as well as incriminating documents and electronic devices during the arrests.
The suspects are accused of operating a network of deceit, luring job seekers with the promise of well-paying positions. However, once individuals fell for the ruse and paid the requested money, the suspects would sever all communication, leaving their victims out of pocket and without any employment.
Police officials have commended the meticulous investigation, saying it serves as a reminder to all aspiring job seekers to be vigilant toward suspicious offers and to only pursue opportunities with verified legitimacy. They added that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend any additional suspects who may be involved in this widespread scam.
