Suicide is never an answer, but when it is, the reasons behind it can reveal a dark reality. Following the death of his driver, whose body was found in a lodge, BJP MP Sudhakar has been booked for abetment to suicide. The police were handed a suicide note that named the MP, as well as two others.
This tragic incident has shed light on a sinister web of corruption. The deceased driver, aged 54, worked for the MP for over a decade and allegedly often mediated money on the MP's behalf, claiming that he would be compensated for his trouble.
The note named a Zilla Panchayat accounts assistant, who allegedly took half of the money and also made the driver work for him on the side. It seems the driver had approached him for money and was beaten when he asked for his cut. The accounts assistant then allegedly forced the driver to work for him, threatening to expose the MP's misdeeds.
The man was also named in the suicide note, with the driver stating he had taken money from him as well. The note was written dated February 10, the day the driver died.
The senior officer further commented that the MP was out of the city when the incident occurred, and has testified that he had no knowledge of any corruption being carried out by those working for him.
As the investigation continues, the events that have unfolded shed light on the importance of accountability, and the effects of corruption at every level.
