The YSRCP complained to the Election Commission (EC) claiming that the district collector muted the party chief's speech during the election campaign in Venkatachalam on Tuesday.
The collector muted the microphone after a complaint was filed alleging that Jagan violated the model code of conduct (MCC).
The YSRCP termed it as "undemocratic" and demanded that such incidents should not be repeated.
YSRCP general secretary Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, in a letter to the EC, said, "It is lamentable to note that the collector of Nellore muted the speech of our party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy while he was addressing a public meeting organised by the party at Venkatachalam in Nellore district".
He added, "Further, it is learnt that the muting of the party president's speech was done at the behest of the local administration".
The incident has blown out of proportion as this is not the first time an opposition leader's speech has been muted.
This is not the first time an opposition leader's speech has been muted. The Congress party, the BJP, and now the YSRCP have all complained about the ruling party manipulating the EC to shut opposition voices.
The AP Congress president had tweeted about the incident, saying, "It is a shame that Jagan's microphone was muted in Nellore".
The ruling party, Telugu Desam Party (TDP), has, however, brushed aside the incident saying such a small thing triggering such a big controversy reveals the insecurities within the opposition parties.
TDP chief and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is also expected to campaign in Nellore tomorrow.
