Operation continues at crash site with sniffer dogs

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel returned on the second day of operations at the Air India flight 171 plane crash site to carry out search operations for any remaining survivors with the assistance of sniffer dogs. The force has recovered a total of 81 bodies thus far out of the 242 passengers and crew members onboard. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have also visited the site to inspect the progress of rescue operations.

The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner plane crashed near the airport perimeter, hit a medical college hostel building, and continued to burn from 1.25 lakh litres of fuel onboard. The accident caused a high-temperature impact on the area and resulted in the death of everyone on board, with the exception of a single British national of Indian origin who survived the crash and is currently in critical condition in a Ahmedabad hospital.

The flight had been destined for London's Gatwick Airport and carried a diverse range of passengers, including 53 British nationals, 7 Portuguese nationals, 1 Canadian national, and 169 Indian nationals.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
