CM Stalin takes swipe at former CM on economic growth

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Thursday took a swipe at former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, saying the latter's criticism of Tamil Nadu's economic growth stemmed from the achievements of the DMK regime.

Stalin said his government was taking Tamil Nadu on the path of development with achievements that even the Union government, led by the BJP, an ally of the AIADMK, could not hide or deny.

He said that the Union government had acknowledged the state's achievements in a review meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently.

Stalin added that the state's GDP grew by 4.3% in the first quarter (April-June) of the current fiscal, higher than the national average of 3.8%. He said the growth was attributed to increased industrial production, higher revenue from the services sector, and greater performance in the agriculture sector.

He noted that the state's industrial production grew by almost double at 7.7% compared to the national average of 4.3%. Additionally, the services sector contributed to the state's GDP growth by 4.7%, higher than the national average of 3.9%.

Stalin's strong comments came after Palaniswami, the former Chief Minister and AIADMK coordinator, claimed that Tamil Nadu's GDP growth was the lowest in the country at 1.4%, despite the state's many initiatives to propel economic growth.
