Official machinery biased against YSRCP, alleges Botcha

Congress leader Jothimani Sennimalai has alleged that the Election Commission (EC) and its machinery are biased in favor of the ruling AIADMK in Tamil Nadu, demanding that impartiality and fairness be ensured for a free and fair election.

Mr. Sennimalai, who is the Tamil Nadu state president of the Congress party and is contesting the election from the Pattiyanchetty constituency in the Pudukkottai district, made the statement on Saturday in reference to the recent incident in which an alleged attempt by AIADMK officials and supporters to rig the polls in their favor was thwarted in the presence of the police and polling officials.

He argued that if the polling officials and the police had been fair and impartial, they would have ensured that the fraudulent voting was halted and the offenders were punished according to the law, which would have ensured a free and fair election.

Mr. Sennimalai, who is widely referred to as Jothi Botcha, alleged that the election commission and its machinery were biased in favor of the AIADMK, and urged them to ensure impartiality and fairness in the upcoming polls.

With tensions boiling over, the Congress party has filed a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Tamil Nadu, appealing for an impartial investigation into the matter.

The complaint states that the accused persons should be booked under non-bailable charges and that the Electoral Commission must halt such activities to ensure a free and fair election.

The outcome of this investigation, and the subsequent actions taken, will determine the public, political, and social impact of the elections, leaving behind a trail of hope or disappointment for many voters in Tamil Nadu.
