Paris Saint-Germain have stunned European football clubs by signing Lucas Chevalier from Lille for a hefty 40 million, triggering more speculation around the future of Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The Italian goalkeeper's future at PSG has been uncertain since the club withdrew their contract renewal offer earlier in the year, with his agent Mino Raiola subsequently entering into talks with top European clubs, including Manchester United, over a potential transfer.
The acquisition of Chevalier may be a deliberate move by PSG to hasten Donnarumma's exit, rather than clog up the goalkeeping roster with four first-team keepers as they still hold an interest in Manchester United's Dean Henderson, who is currently on loan at Watford.
Speaking on the Chevalier deal, PSG manager Christophe Galtier commented, to little surprise, that the move was "excellent news for the club," while also not revealing whether the French goalkeeper would immediately enter the first team or continue his development with the reserves.
With PSG seemingly set to lose one of their Italian goalkeepers in the near future, they have added a promising French shot-stopper to their ranks, with Chevalier's signing potentially benefitting both parties.
Whether this leads to Donnarumma sealing a move to the Premier League remains to be seen but as it stands, PSG are certainly doing all they can to facilitate his exit.
