Fast-bowling great Waqar Younis is one of many cricket legends lauding the impressive skills of pace-bowling prodigy Mohammed Shami, who is currently leading India's attack in the ongoing Test series against England.
Since making his international debut for India in January 2016 against Australia in Sydney, Bumrah has picked up 457 wickets in 207 matches played across formats.
His remarkable skills, unmatched accuracy, and ability to take crucial wickets at crucial times have made him a valuable asset and a consistent performer for India.
"When someone like me, a former fast bowler, says that he's the best I've seen, it means a lot," Waqar said of Bumrah on Sony Sports. "Because when I watch him, I feel he is doing things that I could never do. I was a bit unorthodox, but with him, it looks pretty effortless."
Bumrah's unique action and unpredictable deliveries have made him a bowler feared by batters worldwide.
"He's just amazing," Younis added. "When I see him, he looks a bit like me I used to bowl from wide of the crease as well. But the way he's bowled, the way he's managed to maintain his skills, his fitness, the way he has improved, the way he has become a true champion, I think he's the best the world has ever seen."
Bumrah's impressive stats continue to close the gap on some of the game's most revered players. With 47 wickets in 30 matches, he is the fastest bowler to reach 100 wickets in ODI matches. He also has 120 wickets in 24 Tests. This places him joint third on the list of fastest Test bowlers to reach 100 wickets.
"He's just a champion, a phenom," Younar concluded. "I hope he stays fit and goes on to become the best fast bowler in the history of the game."
