Asia Cup Favourites India Aim For Glory

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly believes his nation are favourites to win the upcoming Asia Cup in Dubai, beginning in September. His optimism follows a strong Indian Premier League performance by the Indian team and he expects this form to carry over.

Sourav Ganguly, former Indian captain and current BCCI president, has stated that India are favourites to win the upcoming Asia Cup, which begins on September 9 in Dubai. This year's tournament will see India face UAE, Pakistan, and Oman in Group A.

Speaking at an event in Kolkata on Sunday, Ganguly said, "India are favourites in the Asia Cup. Look at the IPL. All the Indian players do well in the IPL. The standard of cricket is so high that they outperform everyone. Beating them (India) will not be easy."

Ganguly's assertion is backed by India's impressive form in recent times. The men in blue clinched the recent bilateral series against England and Australia, demonstrating their prowess in both home and away conditions. Furthermore, India outperformed their counterparts in the 2019 ODI World Cup, finishing as runners-up, second only to an impressive English side.

However, for India to succeed in the Asia Cup, they will need to adapt to the challenges of UAE conditions. With batting prowess and a strong bowling lineup, India will begin the tournament as favourites, yet Ganguly's fellow countryman and former teammate, VVS Laxman, has suggested that India should not take this tournament lightly, warning "There are no easy games."

With just under two months until the start of Asia Cup, India will begin their campaign confident in their ability but mindful of the challenges ahead. Let's see if they can live up to Ganguly's expectations and bring home the glory.
