Australia's Glenn Maxwell has a reputation for being a innovator, but even he might not have imagined being compared to Suryakumar Yadav, let alone matching him ball for ball. But match the catching prowess of the Indian batting star he did, with a stunning grab over his shoulder, at full stretch, in the deep. The incident took place on the second ball of the last over of the match bowled by Australian fast bowler Ben Dwarshuis in Darwin on Sunday.
Ben Dwarshuis, bowling the 20th over of the South African innings, bowled a full delivery which was edged by Sisanda Magala, looping just outside Maxwell's reach. Glenn Maxwell, positioned at deep mid-wicket, ran backwards, desperation etched into every fibre of his being, and, in a flash, reached out and took a stunning one-handed catch, behind his back, at full stretch, as the ball fell just inches from the ground.
The catch was heralded as being akin to the one caught by Suryakumar Yadav in India's tour of England earlier in the year and further cements Maxwell's reputation as one of the best fielders in world cricket, despite his lack of enthusiasm for the role.
This was the first match of the three-match T20 series between Australia and South Africa.
