Artificial intelligence (AI) in Indonesia is about to receive a significant boost via a sovereign fund reportedly being established by the country's Ministry of Communication and Information. This fund is expected to drive the development and utilization of AI for the national benefit, across various sectors. This move is intended to address a gap in funding for AI startups, and it will mainly focus on boosting innovation and global competitiveness in the AI space.

"The establishment of this fund is crucial to propel Indonesia's vision to become a global player in the digital economy," explained the Minister of Communication and Information, who himself has advocated for increased national investment in emerging technologies.

This news arrives alongside Indonesia's desire to capitalize on the digital revolution, which has been intensified by the pandemic. The country has also recently seen the launch of the Indonesia AI Association (INAIA), a collective of professionals and organizations working to accelerate AI adoption and advancement in Indonesia.

"With the launch of the INAIA, we envision Indonesia becoming a regional leader in AI, with advancements in research, education, and applications," said one of the association's founding members.
