World Para Athletics Championships: Venue Set For September 1st

The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi is preparing to host the biggest para athletics event in the world for the first time, but delays to the resurfacing of the track could pose a problem for athletes.

At a recent inspection of the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, officials from the World Para Athletics Association gave the grass surface and lighting a thumbs up.

The Association's executive director, Ryan Montgomery, said he was confident that the stadium, which is also known as the `Nest', would be ready for the championships commencing on September 27. Montgomery stated that the association had discussed the track installation process with the Delhi authorities and concluded that it would be feasible to install the surface overlay on top of the existing monodock slab.

Montgomery's assessment concluded that it would take a maximum of three to four weeks to lay the track and, despite the delay, the stadium should be ready for athletes to start training on September 1st.

The president of the Indian Para Athletics Federation, Ravinder Singh Raina, confirmed that all necessary steps would be taken to ensure the smooth execution of the World Championships and that he was optimistic that the event would be a success.

Raina stated that the Delhi authorities and sports ministry were fully cooperating to ensure that the stadium met all requirements and that the Indian team was ready to shine on the international stage.

Raina expressed his gratitude to the authorities for their support, and concluded that he was confident that the event would foster a sense of excitement and community amongst para-athletes in India.
