TIRUPATI: Bojjala Gopalakrishna Reddy, a former Telugu Desam Party minister, passed away at the age of 73 due to a cardiac arrest in Hyderabad on Friday.

Bojjala Gopalakrishna Reddy was elected five times as the legislator from the Srikalahasti assembly constituency. Born on April 15, 1949, he first won the Srikalahasti seat in 1989 and went on to secure victories in 1994, 1999, 2009, and 2014. He also served as the state forest minister and the IT minister during the Telugu Desam Party's rule in the undivided state of Andhra Pradesh.

Bojjala was among the victims of the 2004 Naxalite claymore mine attack on then-Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at Alipiri, where he sustained injuries.
