Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) officials have announced that the long-awaited Thane Metro is set to roll out in June with a trial run scheduled for next month. This news comes after Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde inspected the project's progress on Wednesday and assessed the trial run of the railway coach.
"The inspection was done to assess the trial run of the railway coach. The trial run is expected to start in June. I will inspect the progress of the work again after the monsoons. The entire Thane Metro project is being implemented on a war-footing mode," Shinde said as quoted by DNA.
The much-needed metro line will serve the people of Thane and ease the burden on local transport with the first phase of the project is expected to be completed by December 2023.
The 14.3 km Thane Metro line will connect Wadala to Kasarvadali with 12 stations and will pass through some of the densely populated areas of Thane including Majiwada, Waghle Estate, and Kalher.
This much-needed modernisation of the city's infrastructure is expected to bring about a drastic change in the lives of the locals and help economic growth.
"The Thane Metro, which is being implemented by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), will be very beneficial for the people of Thane as well as for the entire MMR. The project will be a game-changer for Thane city and will boost the economic development of the city," said Mr. Shinde, as quoted by The Hindu.
With the launch date set to be announced soon, the people of Thane can look forward to a new, modern, and efficient means of transport.
