YouTube's AI-Powered Search Feature Not For India

After a few months of testing, YouTube is ready to bring its new AI search feature to more users - except those in India. The company has not clarified why India is exempt from the feature, which uses AI to understand search context and improve results.

YouTube's latest feature relies on AI to understand typos, offer accurate search suggestions, and improve result matching. Although the company has not confirmed a full rollout, sources claim that it has begun for several users.

While India is missing out on the feature for now, it is available to users in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and others. This is not the first time a company has rolled out a feature in limited countries before - or excluded India entirely.

Facebook launched the feature in 2019 to limited countries, and although India was included, it was slower to receive the feature than some western countries. Facebook, Google, and other tech giants often test new functions in smaller markets to gauge user reactions and work out bugs before a full rollout.

For now, India will have to wait and see if YouTube's AI search will be available to the country anytime soon. The feature reflects the company's focus on AI analytics and a hope to challenge search rivals like Netflix, which acquired an AI startup to improve search.

It is not clear if India's exclusion is due to its sheer size and unique market, or tech differences and competition. Whatever the reason, India will hopefully join the roster of countries able to access the new feature soon.
