Justice Delayed But Not Denied For Sarla Bhat, A Victim Of Kashmiri Terrorism

Over three decades after her death, Sarla Bhat's family will finally see justice, with investigations reopening into the 1990 abduction and killing of the young Kashmiri Pandit nurse.

Sarla Bhat, a 23-year-old nurse working in a government-run healthcare facility in Srinagar, was abducted from her hostel on April 18, 1990. The next day, her bullet-riddled body was found in the Umar Colony, Mallabagh, Soura. She was allegedly murdered by terrorists affiliated with the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF).

The case, which involved the targeted killing of an innocent young woman, sent shockwaves across India and led to national outrage and grief. Unfortunately, justice was never properly served. Until now.

After years of petitioning, Sarla Bhat's family has finally seen a ray of hope: the Srinagar police have reopened investigations into her murder. They will be working closely with the Jammu and Kashmir Police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on this vital case.

Speaking to Press India, an officer at the Srinagar police said, "The investigation has been reopened upon the family's repeated requests and we are investigating the matter thoroughly."

Let's hope that reopening this cold case will bring the family of Sarla Bhat the justice they deserve and shed light on the many other unsolved cases of terrorism in Kashmir.
