Cricket in India: Roger Binny Continuing as BCCI President Until September AGM

Indian cricket legend Roger Binny's tenure as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) might be extended until the annual general meeting (AGM) in September.

According to a report from The Times of India, Binny, who took over as the head of the cricket board in October 2022, could remain in his role until he is 75 years old, which isn't until June 2023.

This possibility arises because the National Sports Code has been revised, proposing that office bearers of national sports federations must step down at age 70, but also allows them to serve three years beyond that age if they were in office prior to the amendment.

The BCCI, whose previous presidential tenure was marked by controversy, has undergone reforms and seen several changes in leadership since the departure of former president Sourav Ganguly.

The former cricket star Binny was elected as president in a special general meeting in Delhi in October 2022, becoming the youngest to hold the position at the age of 74.

Should he continue in the role, many are eager to see the impact he will have on the future of Indian cricket.

Given that the AGM isn't until September, there is no confirmation on Binny's tenure just yet. However, if the state unit members agree, we could see him staying on as BCCI president for at least another six months.
