Thousands throng Srikalahasti temple on new moon day

On Monday, the Srikalahasti Devasthanam saw an overwhelming number of devotees, with nearly 35,000 visitors coming to offer prayers to Lord Srikalahasteeswara and Goddess Gnana Prasunambika. The influx was especially high as the auspicious day coincided with the new moon, making it a significant occasion for Lord Shiva worship. The temple, renowned for its Rahu Ketu pujas, also known as Rahu Ketu Kshetram, recorded a remarkable 7,358 devotees performing these pujas. Many devotees believe that performing the Rahu Ketu puja on new moon days, especially during Rahu Kala, helps remove negative influences from their horoscopes. This resulted in a revenue of Rs 60.72 lakh for the temple. On average, the temple performs over 4,000 pujas daily, with numbers increasing to more than 5,000 on weekends and Mondays. Of the 7,358 devotees, 4,344 purchased Rs 500 tickets, 1,877 bought Rs 750 tickets, 615 opted for Rs 1,500 tickets, 416 chose Rs 2,500 tickets, and 106 purchased Rs 5,000 tickets. Additionally, around 5,200 people received darshan through general entrance tickets, with 3,310 opting for Seeghra darshan and 1,890 buying special entrance tickets. The temple also sold 31,500 prasadams, including Jilebi, small laddu, vada, pulihora, and big laddu. To ensure a smooth and comfortable experience for the devotees, Temple Chairman Anjuru Taraka Srinivasulu, Executive Officer KV Sagar Babu, and other officials closely monitored the queue lines, providing water and buttermilk to the waiting pilgrims.
