'Kondachuttu', the practice of trekking around a hillock, is becoming increasingly popular at the renowned Saivite shrine of Srikalahasti, with more people preparing to participate. Kondachuttu, also known as Girivalam in Tamil, is already well-known at the Sri Arunachaleswara temple in Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, which holds equal significance to Srikalahasti. Spiritual orator Chaganti Koteswara Rao will undertake this sacred trek on January 12, ahead of Sankranti, accompanied by 1,000 disciples. During his discourse at the temple earlier this year on Maha Shivaratri, he had announced his intention to trek the holy hillock. Drawing from mythology, Koteswara Rao mentioned that Lord Shiva and Parvathi had trekked Mount Kailash on the holy Kanuma festival, which is observed the day after Sankranti. The temple management has made elaborate arrangements for the event, including setting up tents, makeshift toilets, drinking water stations, and medical facilities at 10 points along the route.
