Breaking away from political attacks and theatrics, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami invoked former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa's name to assert that the incumbent DMK government has done little in four years.
Palaniswami, who is also the AIADMK general secretary, was speaking at a farmers' meeting in Krishnagiri as part of the 'Samara Mitra Yatra,' a statewide tour to connect with the people and strengthen the party's foothold on the ground.
Alleging that the DMK government was "asleep," he pointed out that previous AIADMK governments, including those led by Jayalalithaa, had undertaken numerous initiatives for the development of Krishnagiri and surrounding areas.
He then criticized the DMK's farm loan waiver scheme, calling it a facade that neglected to aid most farmers. According to him, the DMK government only provided relief to about one thousand five hundred farmers, while the AIADMK government led by him had relieved fifteen thousand farmers in the district alone during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Palaniswami also promised that his party would implement ambitious projects and initiatives if elected to power in the upcoming elections.
The DMK government, meanwhile, has dismissed the allegations, accusing the AIADMK of trying to divert public attention from the ongoing investigations against party members involved in corruption cases.
However, with elections drawing near, it remains to be seen whether Palaniswami's passionate appeals will pay dividends with the state's farmers and ultimately alter the political landscape of Tamil Nadu.
