Keeping in line with the vision of ensuring the safety of citizens, the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has recently launched the 'Eat Right' campaign, a initiative to promote safe and healthy eating practices in restaurants and food joints across the city.
The campaign aims to ensure that all restaurants adhere to the prescribed safety norms and maintain impeccable standards of hygiene in food preparation, making it safe for consumers at all times.
Speaking of the initiative, GVMC Commissioner, Mr. G. Srijana, stated that the objective of the 'Eat Right' campaign is to ensure that the city's eateries maintain the quality of food served and prioritize cleanliness and hygiene in food preparation. It empowers the civic body to take action against restaurants and food joints that do not meet the required standards and poses a risk to public safety and health.
The GVMC's campaign will see surveillance teams, dubbed as the Women and Child Safety Enforcement Teams (SHE Teams), conduct regular inspections of eateries. These teams will scrutinize the quality of raw materials, prepared food, and overall kitchen hygiene at the restaurants.
At least two eateries will be inspected daily, with the teams checking for hygiene and any other safety norms violations, the GVMC Commissioner noted.
Through the 'Eat Right' campaign, GVMC continues to demonstrate its commitment to ensuring a safe and secure dining experience for citizens and tourists in Visakhapatnam.
This initiative marks a step towards fostering a culture of accountability and responsibility in the city's culinary industry, with the onus on empowering patrons to make informed choices about where and what to eat, based on their adherence to safety standards.
