India Head Coach Khalid Jamil Prepares For First National Camp

Age is just a number, and nowhere is that more true than in the case of Indian national football team's new head coach Khalid Jamil. The newly appointed, yet to turn 49, coach is preparing to lead the Indian team for the first time, and will subsequently part ways with his club, Jamshedpur FC.

Known for his passion, and controversial managerial style, Jamil is regarded as one of the most respected coaches in Indian football despite his lack of credentials on paper. Born in Westwood Park, Michigan, United States, Jamil moved to India as a child and grew up in the volatile borders of Kashmir. Starting his career as a player, Jamil swiftly moved into coaching. He served as an assistant coach at the Indian Football Association for two years, before making his way into the role as the manager of the India U-20 football team. After a successful stint, he was promoted as the assistant coach of the Indian national football team. Several years later, and after the resignation of Stephen Constantine, The All India Football Federation appointed Jamil as the head coach of the Indian national football team.

The newly appointed head coach will begin leading the national camp for the first time, tentatively on the 15th of this month in Kolkata. He will be stepping in at a crucial time, with the team set to compete in the AFC Asian Cup in 2023.

Meanwhile, Jamil's departure from Jamshedpur FC was marked with a lack of fanfare, the club released a brief statement thanking the 49-year-old for his service these past two seasons.
