Harbhajan Singh Demands India Boycott Pakistan At Asia Cup: 'Choti Si Baat...'

Cricket veteran Harbhajan Singh has asked for India to boycott their match against Pakistan at the upcoming Asia Cup, arguing that cricket between the two nations should be suspended until normalcy returns in Kashmir.

'"This (Pakistan) is a country which sponsors terrorism and that is the reason why cricket should not be played with them. I personally feel that cricket should not be played with them (Pakistan) at any level unless they improve their attitude and show the will to join us to fight terrorism. Terrorism has brought a bad name to Pakistan and the government there is also involved in it. Choti si baat nahi hai ye (This is not a small matter). I am saying this as a patriot. I will personally be happy if cricket is not played with them," said Harbhajan Singh, according to Times of India.

His remarks come after the Pakistani ambassador to India, Moin ul Haque, suggested that India was going to seek advice from the government before deciding whether to play against Pakistan in the Asia Cup, according to CNN.

The comments also follow a bloody attack in Kashmir, with militants raiding a civilian evacuation operation, leaving 11 dead and 14 injured.

The upcoming Asia Cup, scheduled for September 2023, is set to be closely watched by fans after India's victory over Pakistan in the 2023 ICC World Cup match triggered chaotic celebrations across the country.

Previously, Harbhajan Singh also refused to accept comparisons between IPL team Punjab Kings and Pakistan National Cricket Team, saying that Indians knew the difference between the two.

"For Indians, Punjab Kings is Punjab Kings and Pakistan is Pakistan. We know the difference between the two. I don't want to comment on anything else, but I want to make it clear that we know the difference," he said.

For now, it remains to be seen whether India will boycott the Asia Cup match against Pakistan or reinstate cricket hopes between the two nations by playing against them.

All eyes are on the BCCI's decision following the ongoing tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
