Srikalahasti temple receives 63.75L revenue in one day

The renowned Srikalahasti temple, famous for its Rahu Kethu pujas, saw record collections on Sunday. As it was the new moon day, which many devotees consider auspicious for performing Rahu Kethu pujas and offering Abhishekam to Lord Shiva, the temple was packed with visitors. A total of 6,685 Rahu Kethu pujas were performed, with the majority being Rs 500 ticket holders. Of these, 4,038 devotees purchased Rs 500 tickets, while 1,741 opted for Rs 750 tickets. Other ticket categories included Rs 1,500–552 tickets, Rs 2,500–291 tickets, and Rs 5,000–63 tickets. Additionally, 193 Rudrabhishekam tickets were sold, and 1,768 people bought Rs 200 special darshan tickets. The temple's total revenue for the day amounted to Rs 63.75 lakhs.

Temple Executive Officer Ramaswamy personally inspected the pujas multiple times throughout the day to ensure a smooth and hassle-free experience for the devotees. Known as ‘Dakshina Kasi,’ the Srikalahasti temple continues to attract large crowds, with its popularity growing year after year, especially after the Tirumala temple. During the 2017-18 fiscal year, the temple's revenue reached Rs 146.16 crore, surpassing even the Srisailam temple, which earned Rs 120 crore during the same period. Rahu Kethu pujas have become a significant source of income for the temple, contributing a major portion of the revenue. On average, these pujas generate approximately Rs 60 crore annually, with around 10 lakh devotees performing them each year. Hundi collections have also increased, reaching Rs 15 crore in the previous year and continuing to grow each month.

Devotees from all over India visit Srikalahasti, as it is considered a sacred ‘Rahu Kethu kshetra,’ to perform these pujas. They believe that performing these rituals at the temple will rid them of their 'doshas' or negative effects. Many prominent individuals, including film stars, cricketers, politicians, and bureaucrats, also visit the temple to perform Rahu Kethu pujas. To accommodate the growing number of visitors, the temple management offers five types of tickets, allowing devotees to choose according to their preferences. While the puja procedures remain the same for all, Rs 5,000 ticket holders can have separate pujas, while others participate in group rituals. With the increasing number of devotees, the temple authorities plan to implement a master plan soon, providing more amenities and ensuring a comfortable darshan experience. Over the next year, the temple is expected to undergo significant development in line with the master plan.
