Meat shop closure order on I-Day callous, unconstitutional, says Owaisi

The clampdown on meat shops during the Indian Independence Day is unconstitutional, according to Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi.

The Muslim leader criticized the order, which restricts open meat sales on the eve and day of the holiday, as "callous" in a Facebook post. Owaisi claims that the decision, which was implemented to prevent the possible outbreak of violence, specifically targets Muslims.

"If you truly want peace, then you will have to stop targeting one community," he stated in the post. "Not a single person was caught violating the rules in Hyderabad during the Independence Day ceremony. So, why single out one community?"

Owaisi's statement comes after Kolkata's Mayor Firhad Hakim stated that the closure order would encourage extremism among minorities.

Hakim tweeted that the order only leads to friction between communities, and the state government should focus on developing a more inclusive strategy to promote harmony.

Is the Kolkata Mayor correct in his assessment of the situation? Will the Indian government consider altering its approach in light of these concerns? Stay tuned to find out.
