Indian cricketer Karun Nair has revealed that teammate Rishabh Pant's courageous decision to bat despite a broken foot in the final test against Australia last year left a lasting impression on the team.
Pant, who suffered the injury in the previous test in Sydney, came out to bat at a crucial moment in the deciding match in Brisbane. His brave effort helped India post 294 runs, helping them secure a historic series win.
Speaking to Indian news outlet Outlook, Nair said Pant's courageous act was a defining moment for the team.
"Rishabh set a very high standard for all of us. Just looking at him, we were all so motivated to go out there and do our best. The series was on the line, everyone was a bit nervous but what he did, (he) just took all the pressure off everyone else," Nair said.
"It was exceptional the way he approached his innings. The courage he showed, the way he handled the situation to help the team win was outstanding."
Nair went on to say that Pant - who famously smashed a match-winning 103 off just 117 deliveries in the fourth Test in Sydney - was a "special player" who had a bright future ahead of him.
"We all know how special a player he is and he is just getting started. He is an immense talent and has a bright future ahead of him, and he will achieve a lot more for India in the coming years," he said.
"He's a match-winner and when he's on song, he can take the team to a different level. It's just great to be part of the same team as him and see him grow."
Nair's remarks highlight Pant's pivotal role in India's success in recent years, with the team chasing records and accolades on the world stage.
With Pant still in his early 20s, India's future looks bright with the dynamic wicketkeeper-batsman at the helm.
