Former Indian pacer S Sreesanth has opened up on his early days with the Indian team, recalling one of many moments of camaraderie he shared with MS Dhoni, who he says was a champion player and a hilarious teammate.
In a snippet from an upcoming documentary, the 37-year-old slower bowler shared a humorous story about Dhoni, recalling Dhoni joking about girlfriends at each venue and praising Dhoni's belief in his potential.
"We were having a tough time, and I used to get a lot of stick from MS. He used to say, 'Arre, agar tu poora khaata bowler thaa, phir defeat mil jaate na' (If you were a complete bowler, we wouldn't have lost the match). Once, I was bowling, and I got hammered for a few runs. I looked at MS, and he winked at me.
That kind of gave me confidence. It was tough, but I think confidence-building was there, and he used to always tell me, 'Tu achcha bowler hai, lagta hai yeh series jeetne wala hai (You are a good bowler, this series seems to be winning)'," he said in the snippet.
The former speedster, who last played for India in 2011, said Dhoni was a hilarious teammate who always knew the right thing to say to lift the team's morale.
"He was a hilarious guy. He always used to say, 'Sabka girlfriend apne ground ke andar hai (Every teammate has a girlfriend in every ground)'," said Sreesanth.
