Govts New Fast-Track Immigration Programme Deems Three Lakh Applications In A Year

Since its inception a year ago, the Fast Track Immigration-Trusted Traveller Program, which operates on e-gates or automated border gates to minimize human intervention in the immigration clearance process, has received about 3,00,000 applications. In the next six months, the Ministry of Home Affairs intends to expand the programme to ten more airports.

According to a report, around 3,00,000 travellers have enrolled in the Fast Track Immigration programme, which was introduced by the Ministry of Home Affairs a year ago. The programme aims to provide a speedy immigration clearance to travellers who frequently visit the country. It operates on e-gates or automated border gates to minimize human intervention in the immigration clearance process.

The programme is currently available in six major airports: Delhi, Mumbai, Cochin, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Kolkata. In the next six months, the Ministry of Home Affairs intends to expand the programme to ten more airports, according to the report. The move is likely to benefit domestic and foreign tourists, frequent business travellers, and foreigners with long-term visas.

Officials say the move is aimed at promoting "ease of living" and "ease of doing business". The programme aims to cut wait times in immigration lines with the goal of establishing a "world-class immigration experience" for travellers. The ministry hopes that by expanding the programme, it will encourage more people to enrol in the Fast Track Immigration programme.
