Petrol, Diesel Fresh Prices Announced: Check Rates In Your City Today

The monsoon season fails to bring any relief to Indian consumers this year, as they are battered by rising fuel prices despite the covid relief tax cuts. This comes as the central government has reduced the excise duty on petrol and diesel by a nominal amount; the former will now be charged at 2.90 per litre instead of 31.8 previously, and the latter at 4.60 per litre instead of 35.2.

Earlier this week, Petroleum companies changed the prices of petrol and diesel on Tuesday morning. In the national capital of Delhi, petrol is now 1 paise more expensive at 101.56 per litre, while diesel prices remained the same at 88.62 per litre. In Mumbai, petrol is sold for 115.85 per litre, an increase of 8 paise, while diesel prices remained the same at 98.99 per litre.

These prices are valid from 6:00 a.m. on August 17, 2021, until the next update, early tomorrow. Currently, petrol and diesel prices are updated daily at 6:00 a.m. based on global crude oil prices and currency rates.

"The government is regularly monitoring the global crude oil market situation and will continue to take proactive steps to ensure that the benefit of low prices is passed on to the consumers," the Ministry of Petroleum had stated recently. The statement seems to ring hollow for Indian consumers who now have to pay nearly 100 for a litre of petrol in most districts across the country.
