Deputy CM Eknath Shinde had a narrow escape as the stage he was standing on during Ghansoli's Dahi-Handi celebrations for Janmashtami collapsed. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon and shocked everyone as the Deputy CM was supposed to be on the ceremony's centerpiece platform. Fortunately, the 51-year-old escaped with no injuries.
Janmashtami, celebrated this year on August 30, is a Hindu festival honoring the birth of Lord Krishna. It is celebrated with great enthusiasm across India, especially in Maharashtra, with Dahi-Handi celebrations. These celebrations entail crowds organizing groups to form a human pyramid to break a pot (Dahi-Handi) hung from a height, with scores of bystanders throwing water balloons and wetting the climbers.
This particular celebration turned into a nightmare for the organizers and attendees when the centerpiece platform collapsed, sending the Deputy CM and others on stage plummeting to the ground. Shinde's advisor Rajendra Bhise and other members of the assembly were also present on the stage.
The area of the incident has been sealed off by the police for further investigation, and no immediate statement has been given by the Deputy CM or any of the attendees.
