Indian Shooters Hope To Hit Shooting Stars At Asian Championships

Leading shooters, including multiple world record holder Manu Bhaker, and Saurabh Chaudhary, will hope to bag medals for India at the Asian Championships in Shymkent, Kazakhstan. This comes after a record 182-member Indian team was announced for the event, marking the largest contingent ever sent out by the country for a shooting event.

The Asian Championships, scheduled to be held between October 10 and October 19, will serve as a crucial yardstick for the Indian shooters to gauge their preparedness for the Olympics in 2024. India sent its largest-ever contingent to the last edition of the event, which was held in Doha in 2019, but couldn't win a single medal. The shooters will look to change that this time around, with a host of talented shooters eyeing glory.

The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has selected shooters representing all pistol and rifle events, including veterans and junior shooters, for the event. Commenting on the announcement, NRAI president Raninder Singh said that the Asian Championships is a crucial event for Indian shooters to gain invaluable Olympic experience.

The Asian Championships will take place at the Alau Shooting Range in the city of Shymkent, which is set to become the shooting hub of Central Asia. With a record number of participants, the Indian team is looking to make a splash and gain crucial experience ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics. The team leaves for Kazakhstan on October 6, 2022, via a special charter flight.

Manu Bhaker, who won a gold medal in the 2018 ISSF World Cup in Guadalajara, will look to continue her impressive form at the championships. The young shooter has been in top form this year, setting a new world record in the 10-meter air pistol event at the ISSF World Cup in Cairo. With such a talented roster, the Indian shooting team is poised to make a strong showing at the Asian Championships.
