Despite a valiant fight, Aiden Markram felt South Africa missed by "small margins" after Australia narrowly secured the series with a dramatic come-from-behind victory.
In a thrilling game of cricket at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Tuesday, Australia completed a daunting victory target of 299 against South Africa with just two wickets and five balls to spare. Chasing over 300 for the second time in four days, Australia got off to a good start before losing quick wickets. With the Proteas on the verge of victory, captain Aiden Markram highlighted the small margins between victory and defeat in such a closely fought series.
"If you look at the series, there were a lot of small margins, and that's what cost us," Markram said. "You can learn a lot from the small things, and that's what we'll take from this."
Despite having already wrapped up the series with an unassailable 3-0 lead, Australia showed its toughness and tenacity once again to clinch the match and take the score to 3-1. Captain Pat Cummins praised the effort put in by the entire team, saying: "It was a really tough game, everybody stuck in there, and it was nice to get across the line."
With the series coming to its conclusion, the focus now shifts to The Oval, where the fourth Test between England and India is underway. India finds itself in a similar situation to South Africa, having lost the series yet displaying commendable resilience and spirit in fighting hard in every game.
