Siddaramaiah should apologise for allowing smear campaign against Dharmasthala temple, says Vijayendra

Calling it a 'sin' against Hindu temples, the BJP leader demanded an apology from the former Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah. The BJP leader referred to allegations levied against the temple and its administrators, alleging that the previous government had allowed a 'smear campaign'.

Former Karnataka minister and BJP leader Vijayendra Kumar said that the Congress government led by Siddaramaiah had allowed the temple administration to be targeted in a 'conspiracy'. "Allegations have been levelled against the temple and its administrators. (Former) Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and (former) Minister Qamarul Islam should apologise to the people for targeting the temple," Vijayendra said.

He urged the Karnataka government to reveal the details of the 'conspiracy' to tarnish the reputation of the temple and its administrators. "The Congress government should tell what benefit it gained by allowing such a conspiracy," he added.

Recently, the Karnataka Congress unit faced a massive backlash after appointing Muslim religious scholars to the boards of temples and Hindu religious institutions. The move led to protests from the public and BJP, as well as huge backlash on social media.

amidst the backlash, the Congress party removed Qamarul Islam, the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, who was at the center of the controversy. Islam was removed from his position as minister-in-charge of the Minority Welfare Department.

While the Congress party claims to have removed Islam due to his 'misunderstanding', BJP sees Islam's removal as an attempt to save the party from further public backlash.

Ultimately, the controversy sheds light on the complex intersection between religion and politics, bringing to light the ways in which political agendas can often prioritize political interests over matters of faith and religious identity.
