Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has criticized the state's Governor for indulging in what he terms as 'cheap politics' in response to the Governor's criticism of the state's opposition. This comes as Stalin announced a new scheme for crop loans in the state's Dharmapuri district.
Stalin launched the scheme, titled the Dravidian Model 2.0, in Dharmapuri on Sunday, February 6. The scheme allows for farmers to avail of instant crop loans of up to 5,000 at zero interest. The scheme will be implemented ahead of the 2026 elections.
During the event, Stalin criticized the Governor for allegedly refusing to sign a file for the release of funds for Amma canteens, claiming the move was politically motivated.
"The opposition parties are unable to do any cheap politics in the state. So, the Governor is trying to take the place of the opposition," Stalin said in speech in Dharmapuri.
This is not the first time Stalin has criticized the Governor. Earlier, the Chief Minister has accused the Governor of delaying the approval of several files relating to schemes and projects worth 81.48 crore.
Stalin promised that the Dravidian Model 2.0 would be more ambitious than the previous Dravidian Model, which saw the establishment of numerous institutions and projects involving rural infrastructure, irrigation works, drinking water facilities, and social welfare.
"The original Dravidian Model was developed by C N Annadurai and Perarignar Anna. That was the first Dravidian Model. Now, DMK is coming with the second version, the Dravidian Model 2.0," Stalin said.
The scheme will provide assistance to farmers, agricultural laborers, and fishermen, as well as those in the salt industry.
Stalin went on to criticize the opposition, claiming they had stopped talking about the development of the state since his administration began implementing development projects.
"They are unable to accept the people's mandate. That is why they are doing all these cheap politics," he said.
How this plays out going forward will be interesting to observe, especially with the Dravidian Model 2.0 being implemented ahead of the 2026 elections.
