Despite warnings of severe thunderstorms and heavy rains, locals and commuters in Hyderabad, Telangana, were unprepared for the deluge that followed.

Heavy storms pounded Telangana on Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning, with forecasts of more to come. This has resulted in disruptions to commuting and workplace routines as the Cyberabad Police advise employees to work from home on Wednesday.

The Joint Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad, has issued an advisory on social media urging employers to allow working from home tomorrow, 23 July. This is to ensure public safety, reduce traffic congestion, and enable seamless operations of emergency services. The police also shared a weather update, predicting steady light showers accompanied by a significant temperature drop over the next few hours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mulugu, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, and Mancherial districts. An orange alert is in place for Warangal, Karimnagar, and Bhadradri Kothagudem districts.

Hyderabad witnessed moderate to heavy downpours between 2.30 am and 4 am, causing waterlogging in low-lying areas. The monsoon season can be beautiful but tragically dangerous and disruptive. Please be careful.
